John Clohisy, M.D. and Jeffrey Nepple, M.D., M.S., are pleased to invite interested individuals to submit an application for this Clinical Research Fellowship Award at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Clohisy is the Daniel C. and Betty B. Viehmann Distinguished Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Chief of Service for Adult and Reconstruction and Hip Preservation in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Nepple is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Co-Director of the Hip Preservation Service, and Director of the Young Athlete Center. The mentor team also includes Cecilia Pascual-Garrido, M.D.-Ph.D., Elizabeth Yanik, Ph.D., and Susan Thapa, Ph.D. The selected applicant will work with this expert clinical research team. Ongoing studies focus on the etiology, natural history, treatment, and predictors of treatment outcomes for pre-arthritic and arthritic hip disease. Hip preservation and total hip arthroplasty procedures are the focus of our clinical outcomes investigations. Research coordinator support and collaboration with other team members is robust. The potential for academic productivity is outstanding.

- M.D. or Ph.D with experience in clinical research

Salary and Benefits:
- The recipient of this award will receive compensation at the current PGY salary rate and will be eligible for WUSM fellow benefits.
Goals and Responsibilities:
There are several key educational goals and responsibilities for this Fellowship:
- Obtain a broad knowledge base regarding musculoskeletal clinical research
- Meet and work with WUSM orthopaedic attendings, trainees, and research team members
- Examine and critically evaluate current orthopedic literature
- Gain experience in performing, writing, and publishing high-quality research
- Involvement in several research projects, ultimately leading to numerous publications, abstracts, and presentations
- Exposure to study design strategies and statistical analysis
Specific characteristics we are looking for:
- MUST be extremely organized
- MUST be detail-oriented
- MUST be able to self-manage/be a self-starter
- Strong work ethic
- Desire to become proficient in data analysis and utilize statistical principles
- Proven interest in research
- Ample opportunities to attend Orthopaedic Grand Rounds, Conferences, Journal Clubs, resident education lectures and activities within the department.
