Hi, I just got my step 1 back and have mixed
feelings. I was hoping for a 230 and got a 228 w/ 92%. What can I expect w/ those #'s
in terms of being considered for interviews?
(no honors 2nd year, just starting rotations in
3rd) Thanks.
Settle down tiger. There is more to life than your step I score. You do not have a bad mark for the exam. remember there are other things that program directors look at. Although it is rumored that 230 is a cutoff for a lot of programs, I tend to believe about 1/69 th of what I hear. I was in you situation not to long a go with a 229 on step I and did just fine. I'm about two weeks into my PGY I year in a great ortho program. Whiskey under the bridge... move on.

And to think that I got into a great orthopedic residency with no board scores at all since we were the last school in the country to take the Federal Licensure Exam (FLEX) which was two days of testing in December of my senior year and equal to all three steps of USMLE.

There is definitely more to it than board scores, unfortunately, some programs still have a cutoff to weed through their hundreds of applications.
