The University of Chicago Orthopaedic Surgery Department is actively seeking a one-year Student Research Assistant who will assist with activities of clinical research studies and projects spanning quality improvement, operational improvement, and access to Carequality initiatives. The successful applicant will work with the departmental research committee and selected PI(s) on grant funded, industry sponsored, and/or investigator-initiated clinical research studies. We are seeking a motivated, engaged, and self-driven individual who is interested in partnering with orthopaedic thought leaders and leading researchers in the Chicago area. Our expectations:
  • Finalize or complete at least one major publishable paper with the possibility to work on a number of others
  • Build rapport with PI(s) and residents, as well as relationships and opportunities within the world of orthopaedics
  • Gain an appreciation for orthopaedic academic surgery
 Responsibilities will include:1. Meetings:
  • Weekly meeting with the Research Team and your PI
  • Monthly check ins with the research committee & departmental researchers
2. Reports:
  • Timely reports at research meetings
  • Presentation at Departmental Research Day
3. Duties:
  • Creation and brainstorming for study protocols
  • Responsible for study protocol amendments and for submission to the IRB Gather and prepare study-related materials
  • Data collection, chart review, & subject interaction
 Required job qualifications:
  • High School Diploma. Science or health-related discipline with bachelor’s degree encouraged
  • Statistics knowledge/experience
  • Flexibility, adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary team settings
  • Skill sets in: MS Office suite 2013 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
