The Orthopedic Sports Medicine team at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care is seeking competitive applicants for a paid, full-time Orthopedic Sports Medicine research fellowship for 2024-2025.Who can apply: We are interested in medical students between M3 and M4, unmatched recent medical graduates, or pre-medical students with significant research and/or orthopedic experience. Prior orthopedics and/or sports medicine research experience is encouraged. A strong interest in sports and sports medicine can help with this role, but all individuals interested in orthopedics are encouraged to apply.Where: You will be working at the Baptist Health Doctors Hospital located in Coral Gables, Florida. Occasionally, you may have to be present at other Baptist Health locations in the greater Miami area depending on the nature of your research projects. Baptist Health has an academic affiliation with the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.Team: You will be working directly under the supervision of the Baptist Health Orthopedic Institute Research Director, Dr. Luis Vargas, in conjunction with the principal investigators including Dr. John Uribe, Dr. Keith Hechtman, Dr. John Zvijac, and Dr. Gautam Yagnik. You will also be working closely with the rest of the research team which includes Dr. Matthias Schurhoff and other coordinators.What to Expect: In this full-time research fellowship, you will be contributing to every aspect of Orthopedic Sports Medicine clinical research including project creation and design, IRB proposal submission, data collection and analysis, manuscript writing and submission, and project presentation. You will have a significant amount of patient interaction and surgical/clinical exposure as you work with the PIs, clinical fellows, research team, and volunteer students to complete research projects. Through our partnership with FIU, you will have access to biostatisticians and basic scientists. You are expected to attend a weekly sports medicine continuing medical education (CME) meeting.Unique Exposure & Connections: This research fellowship is perfectly suited for individuals interested in gaining Orthopedic Sports Medicine exposure as the Baptist Health Orthopedic Care group offers an ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinical Fellowship and provides medical coverage for professional sports teams and events in Miami (Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, Inter Miami CF, Miami Open, and other events), Miami area college and high school sports (FIU, Miami-Dade high schools), and the local community. Through your research projects, you will be exposed to every aspect of sports medicine, and you will gain connections within the sports medicine world.Anticipated Production: You are expected to produce and submit multiple abstracts to local, regional, national, and international meetings and publish multiple research papers during the time of the fellowship.
