The Levy Shoulder to Hand Center at Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in West Boca Raton, Florida, invites applications for senior medical students (MSIII-IV) or recent graduates to apply for their competitive annual research fellowship position.
In 2022, Dr. Levy established the Levy Shoulder to Hand Center after 16 years at Holy Cross Hospital. Working together with the dedicated research staff and the shoulder/elbow fellow the clinical research fellow will be immersed in academic research in a private practice setting. Each year, there are 10-15 active projects, allowing the fellow to be substantially involved in all aspects of research, culminating in an average of 10 peer-reviewed publication each year!
The goal of this all-inclusive fellowship is to immerse oneself in academic research (10-20 publications within the year), strengthen their application for the Orthopaedic Residency Match, and gain exposure to the private-academic orthopedic surgeon career model. Our former research fellows have consistently matched into residency positions!
The research fellow will work directly under the mentorship of Jonathan Levy, M.D. and will function as the research fellow for any new or ongoing projects, and help maintain the surgical outcomes registry.
The research fellow can expect to obtain proficiency in research study design and planning; IRB writing and maintenance; development of patient registries; the ability to effectively and efficiently write manuscripts and prepare academic talks; manuscript preparation and submission; exposure to cutting-edge orthopedic surgical treatment options. The research fellow can tailor their experience to their interest. We currently have upwards of 20 studies ongoing, with a prospective clinical outcomes database of over 9000 surgeries.
Additionally, the fellow has ample opportunity to observe surgical days and my take advantage of our state-of-the art video capture equipment to develop surgical technique videos.
Application Process
Starting date is negotiable, preferably an immediate start.
Duration of the fellowship is one year.
A financial stipend without benefits will help support the 1-year commitment.
