The Levy Shoulder to Hand Center at Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in West Boca Raton, Florida, invites applications for senior medical students (MSIII-IV) or MS IV who have not yet graduated to apply for their competitive annual research fellowship position.
Dr. Levy established the Levy Shoulder to Hand Center in 2023 after 16 years at Holy Cross Hospital. Working together with the dedicated research staff and the shoulder/elbow fellow the clinical research fellow will be immersed in academic research in a private practice setting. Each year, there are 10-15 active projects, allowing the fellow to be substantially involved in all aspects of research, culminating in an average of 10 peer-reviewed publication each year!
The goal of this all-inclusive fellowship is to immerse oneself in academic research (10-20 publications within the year), strengthen their application for the Orthopaedic Residency Match, and gain exposure to the private-academic orthopedic surgeon career model.
The research fellow will work directly under the mentorship of both Jonathan Levy, MD and Casey Beleckas, MD and will function as the research fellow for any new or ongoing projects, and help maintain the surgical outcomes registry.
The research fellow can expect to obtain proficiency in research study design and planning; IRB writing and maintenance; development of patient registries; the ability to effectively and efficiently write manuscripts and prepare academic talks; manuscript preparation and submission; exposure to cutting-edge orthopedic surgical treatment options. The research fellow can tailor their experience to their interest. We currently have upwards of 20 studies ongoing, with a prospective clinical outcomes database of over 7000 surgeries.
Additionally, there is ample exposure to the operating room for all shoulder and elbow surgical procedures, allowing the research fellow to observe first hand the workflow of the most simple to complex cases.
