I speak from no position of true authority. However, I highly doubt that your ABSITE score gives a flying %(@$. I had a lone bad evaluation from one of my gen surg rotations this year (I'm an intern) and my program director in a fairly serious tone said "we worry if too many gen surg people like you anyway". The ABSITE has nothing to do with orthopaedic surgery. General surgeons will pretend to know what a Collies fracture is (when referencing a volar Barton's), but ultimately have no clue. Nor do I have any clue what the difference between a left hemicolectomy and an low anterior resection is.

I also don't think step 3 has any real significance. While you can register to take in any state, many states require you to finish intern year first. As such, it will be highly variable and I expect mean very little.
