I'm an MSIII trying to figure out when I'll be doing away rotations, but unfortunately during the prime months I have a couple of commitments I can't back out of. Any thoughts as to whether there's a way to do an away and miss 1-2 days? I know it's really important to make a good impression and I don't want to look like I don't care about the rotation...but I also don't want to skimp on aways. Thanks!
Look at the schedule for the programs you are interested. Many places don't follow the month to month schedule. You may be somewhere from the 10th or July to Aug 7th for example. Maybe you can find progrmas that your schedule will work with. You need to look at the medical schools visiting student website for this info

Agree with above.

Also, depends on the committment I would think. I missed a wedding of one of my very good friends back home because I could not make the flight a reasonable fit. If you're presenting research, it's most likely an ok. The best bet is to email the residency coordinator at the program you're thinking of to ask them - preferably at the end of February after this years match stuff is a little quieter.

when you apply for the away rotation just tell them that your rotation either starts after or ends before your trip. the only problem there is if you have to go in the middle of the month. We have students all the time and they are staggered as to what weeks their school allows them to rotate.
