I was wondering what books applicants where buying/using for ortho electives and to prepare for next year. I was thinking about buying rockwood and green, but I don't want to jinx myself and not match. If anyone has bought some legit textbooks, I'd be curious to see what books.

I ended up purchasing Miller and the Lange review series as well as Hoppenfeld's Surgical Approaches. I've used all three books during my externships and they seem to be just about at my level. I would wait to buy any more extensive (and expensive) books until you start your intern year. Many programs also give you an allowance to buy books and then you wouldn't have any books to buy if you bought the big ones now (but maybe they'd let you use the funds to get Maxim, GQ, etc...hehe)

I used the new Handbook of Fractures book (I think by Koval, it's the blue one) for my first rotation. It came in pretty handy as for as eponyms, classification, management, etc. It's also small enough to keep in your coat. Not too expensive. I think around $25. Just my two cents.
