How difficult is it to match without doing audition rotations? I am not worried about my app as far as numbers go. I should be able to get plenty of interviews. I have required clerkships that run through August and I am doing an ortho rotation at my home program in September. That means the earliest I could do an away is October, which seems pretty late. On top of that, I would prefer not spending a month away from my wife.

I am only applying to community programs, but none really seem to stand out over another. I know doing an away at a program will increase my chances at getting in to a specific program, but will programs look down on me if I only do a rotation at my home program. Was anyone asked where they did rotations at their interviews?

It's not critical to do aways if you have the numbers. Doing away rotations help you generate letters, but if you have enough ortho letters then you're set

I was asked about my aways at SOME but definitely not the majority of my interviews.

I did an away in october so it's definitely not too late. Maybe you can do one in your home town so you don't have to be "away" from your wife, etc.

But if you have good numbers, you'll get the interviews and beyond that it's how you interview that matters.

I did 2 aways and matched at a program i didn't rotate at

October is definately not too late. I did an away at the place I matched in November. It is also my understanding that it is harder to match at many community programs without rotating there than at larger "academic" programs. I found it more difficult for me to even get interviews at those that I didn't rotate at. (Some I applied to were Carolinas, Orlando, Mt. Carmel in Columbus, Allegheny General). It certainly isn't a requirement to do aways, but they help.

I know October isn't too late to do an away, but it is a little late to try to generate letters.

Has anyone else found that community programs seem to be more selective in offerring interviews only to those that rotate?

depends on the "community program" you're talking about, but in general, i also found that it is more difficult to get interviews at these places than at larger academic programs without rotating.
