At the surgery interest group meeting at my school recently a 4th year student who matched in plastic surgery was talking about setting up away rotations and she mentioned that after applying (via VSAS or directly) to different programs she would contact the program (presumably the clerkship director) basically to tell them how she was very interested in their program yadda yadda in order to get a rotation there. It sounds like she ended up getting what she wanted for the most part whether it was because her efforts actually worked or if she just got lucky. Has anyone done this in order to get the away rotations they want or do you basically just have to wait? So far I've applied to a couple places on the first availble date and they say its first-come-first-served so I thought I was in solid shape...
