I was just wondering what the people who are couples matching have for backup plans? ie. is the more competetive applicant of the pair (probably the ortho unless you are one of those dermi couples) going to list a few on their own, or did you do some prelim spots, or other options I am not explorin? I am trying to figure out what to do in the disaster that I don't match (I get sick at the thought of this, and a trip to the forty bridge for a plunge into the Mighty Mississippi sounds like a much better option), and I am also worried about my partner in this process too. I would just like to hear how the other couples are handling the backup plans. Thanks, guys.
I'm going through the couple's match presently. At the end of our lists, we have each of my programs coupled with her not matching, followed by each of her programs coupled with my not matching. For the couples' match, they have a match code for a "no match." She can always get another spot, I may not be able to. That was our thinking for last ditch.

Ditto to asl17...

I ranked my programs with her unmatched, but instead of doing it just based on my preference from 1-13, we ranked it regionally, ranking the regions with the most OB/GYN spots first, and then down through the rest of the regions. Of course within a region I ranked programs based on preference. After that, we listed me unmatched just figuring I'll scramble for a surgery prelim yr wherever, and go from there...

Try to avoid far away combos if it's reasonable that your partner could scramble for a spot near you... unless of course you don't care about seeing your partner for the busiest five years of your life...I guess everyone's relationship is a lil' different...
