The University of Iowa program website states:

"ERAs allows you to submit 4 letters of reference, we require 3 reference letters. It is strongly suggested that you provide a paragraph explaining the reasons for your interest in the University of Iowa Orthopaedic Residency by e-mail to Jeanette-marsh@uiowa.edu."
