I'd like an answer to this as well, where are people putting submitted papers (but not published) in the CAF. also, what are the earliest dealines that anyone has heard of, any earlier than mid sept. This whole thing is such a pain in the ass...any help would be really appreciated. thanks

To all those who fret about how your ERAS CV appears I have one thing to say...ours all look the same! Therefore, focus on the content instead of the appearance since that's what will matter. Consider having your dean's office scan in your own 'pimp lookin' (that was for you slupodhopeful) CV and then you can send it as a 4th LoR. I can't answer as to how to state articles that are submitted but not published. I think you just state it as you would if it were published, but put 'submitted' in parentheses at the end of the citation.

On my ERAS I typed "Submitted to [insert Journal name here]" in the section for Journal title. I also put the month I submitted in the appropriate place. I figure it was the most straightforward way to put it--- plus since "Submitted to..." is the first thing they see there is no ambiguity and no way it could be misinterpreted as a false representation [remember the old JBJS article about falsification on CV's].

That's probably the only time in my career I'll be a cited

BTW, I got the ERAS CV to look pretty much like the other one, you just have to get creative with space bar, tab, enter, and colons (the punctuation mark of course ).

I would not try any fancy spacing with your application. The View CV function does not accurately reflect with the CV will look like to programs. The version they get will have the formatting correct and will look professional. If you are truely concerned with its appearance, ask your home program to print out your CV for you and you will see.

I wouldn't use a "pimp-lookin'" CV for a fourth letter either. There are plenty of programs that specifically ask for 3 letters or 4 letters, not 2 and a CV or 3 and a CV.

I agree with HandJob, I ended up just putting things in as requested on the ERAS site and hit submit. No fancy spacing, punctuation.

If it looks weird, it looks weird for everyone. We're all in one boat with ERAS. And overall, it is a nice service.

FYI: some programs do want a regular CV sent to them, I called the places I was applying since a lot of website are out of date to get the scoop on deadlines, requirements, etc and some specifically asked for a regular CV in addition to the ERAS one.

I would just enter items into the ERAS CV in a straightforward, honest matter. I would not use any fancy punctuation and would not scan in a 'pimpin' CV as a 4th letter. My impression was that the majority of interviewers barely looked at your CV berfore you walk in the room. It seemed that most places offered invites on board scores and AOA status. Your CV and letters are just feeders for conversation. I also took the attitude that most programs did not care if you sent 3 or 4 letters and sent 4 to all programs unless they said 3 ONLY.

Now that everyone has pounced on my use of informal language in an informal forum, I think we can quit with the "pimp lookin" citations. Really, it's just slang, it's not dangerous .

Just FYI, I didn't do anything crazy with my CV, and I didn't scan it in as a 4th LOR, and all the faculty and residents who've seen my application so far said it looks very (insert slang or informal term of your choice if you like, or just use nice)

Relax. It's early in the year. If your this stressed out because a few people commented on your post then I would hate to see you in a couple of months.

It was meant to be. I just realized that the room reaction to "pimp lookin" means I probably shouldn't go to my interviews with a hat on sideways like usual, and I dont' think I can wear my purple pin-striped suit with the top hat

If you go to your interviews "pimp lookin" make sure you're also hooked up so the hat matches the shoes that matches the coat that matches the belt with the shirt matching the.........Now thats hooked up.

how did you guys do the picture thing? simply mail them to each place, or did you do it through the computer somehow? thanks,

Just get a copy to the dean's office and they will scan it in similar to letter of recommendations. 2.5x3.5 - 3x4 photo
