I know it is to my advantage to get in my ERAS app. around Sept. 1, but I don't have an ortho sub-I until September, which means no LORS will be done until say, end of October?

So how much will that affect my application, if it is not complete until late October upon receipt of LOR's?

Do programs grant interviews based on what they do have, i.e. board scores, grades, etc.?
I also have an ERAS question.

I am wondering about Publications/Abstracts in the ERAS application. Is there anyway to indicate that you have "submitted" a publication to a journal? It seems that when you list something, the application asks for a date of publication... any thoughts?

I plan on have them listed on my CV, but I wonder if most places would not even bother lookin at CV's as the one on ERAS is standardized.

Thanks,

Having an incomplete application past the programs due date will likely be a big program. I know some programs that will not review your application if it is incomplete past their deadline. If you absolutely can't get any letters by a program's deadline (check their websites-some have deadlines in mid october), then don't waste your money there. If you can get some other letters you could always use them as a backup. Never underestimate how long it will take for some people to get their letters written. You don't want to end up with not enough letters on Nov 1 when most programs deadlines are.

As for the publications question, I left the date blank and put submitted under volume. Anybody have any input on this?

I'm kind of curious about the rec letter thing too since I think most of us won't have all our letters before Sept 1st. Then again, a lot of programs wait till the deans letter which doesn't go out till Nov 1st anyway.

As for the publication thing, my advisor just told me to put: Journal name, 2006 In Press. Luckily since that time the article has come out so I didn't try to enter it into ERAS, I don't know if they would let you stick that in one of the fields or not.
