I can only comment on jax. I rotated there and thought it was a great experience. As a student you see and do a lot. They don't get as many rotators as some of the other places I went. There will occasionally be a third year on the service for a week or so.

I did a month on the trauma/onc service. Days begin about 5:30-6 and last til about 6pm. During the day you are very busy with no down time. I did 2-3 of OR per week and the other time was spent in clinic. they don't expect you to take a lot of call. I took one fri/sun and 4 week nights.

They offer dorm housing at the hospfor pretty cheap. $10 a day i think. all the uf students stay there while rotating in jax. it isn't the greatest, but it beats looking for something. parking is also free

The hosp is your basic public type place. No fancy stuff with okay staff. No major prob.

Residents are a great group of guys. They occasionally hang out outside the hosp. We went out several nights while i was there.

The program is VERY busy with lots of trauma. It had problems several years back, but it seems to improving rapidly. They got a new chair(Berrey) about a year ago, and he has big plans for the place. He was the previous chairman at UF-gainsville, and it seems as if he is very well known. He wrote one of my letters and it seems as if everywhere i interviewed had an attending that knew him.
He also gives interviews to all rotators unless there have obvious problems with the person.

They have all the major specialities covered: spine, sports, joints, onc., foot, hand, trauma. The downside is that they only have one attending in each field. Supposedly the are hiring several more, especially trauma. They do peds at nemours in jax where there is a ton of pedi ortho faculty. As a student you only go to Nemours for conference one day a week.

any other ?
