Do any med students/residents/attendings out there have any information on the situation at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan?
I heard through the grapevine that they only have a couple of attendings remaining at the primary hospital but were aggressively seeking more.
Why did the old attendings "jump ship"? Is the residency okay?
Is there any truth to this?
Where are their residents getting the experience?
Do they still have fellowships?
A similar thing happened to the Wayne State Program a couple of years ago (Moed and Company left for St. Louis). What's going on in the motor city?

Interviewed at HF and was very impressed. They have a new chair - a hand surgeon, and new faculty either recently arrived or soon to arrive, including an alum who just finished a total jts fellowship. The dept also received a nice lump of funds recently and is in the process of renovating their floor. If I'm recalling right, there are no fellows. There's also a sweet deal on car discounts (ford, jag, land rover, volvo) and moonlighting (capable of making near $100000/yr 3rd yr and beyond). If the weather was more desirable, I would've ranked them very highly (now ranked middle of pack).

I would have to echo Money's sentiment. I don't know much about the inside politics, but I interviewed and was very impressed. I had heard very good things, the hospital is pretty nice, the residents seemed pretty cool. The hospital seems to have lots of money (actually making money) and it shows-- they also seem to crap a lot of it in Ortho's direction. I'm not sure about this year's meetings, but in the recent past they have had A LOT of papers at ORS and AAOS, with a research interest much more than would be expected. In all, it's a very solid program with a lot to offer (even in addition to those mentioned in Money's post). I ranked it middle of the pack, but largely for geographic/logistical concerns in the end. But, if you don't mind Detroit (without the hockey), it would be a good alternative to Beaumont or UMich.
