I got a rotation at HJD for this summer, and I felt very lucky to get it because I was initially told that they were booked until November, but somehow Cynthia squeezed me in. The only problem is that I am going to be at Bellvue instead of HJD. She told me that it is the same program, though. I saw an old post that said to try to get Joint Diseases instead of Bellvue because you don't get to meet the key attendings.
So, my question is if anyone has any advice on how to make the right connections and meet the right people while I am there despite the fact that I will be at Bellvue.
Also, I have no idea of the geography of NY. Should I look for housing via NYU? Is Bellvue in the same vicinity as HJD? Will I ONLY be at Bellvue or will I get some of the HJD experience?
Thanks...OrthoDreamer :smokin:
I spent a month @ HJD last year, had an awesome experience and I am starting there in July.
First of all, NYU and Bellvue are right next to each other (1 minute walk) (5 minutes to HJD) so you need not worry.
It is true that you should be at HJD, but here are some options.
1) Request to present your cases (formal cases) to an HJD attending (this is mandatory for all students, twice during your month)
2) Request (once you get there) to spend time in either Dr Koval's or Dr Jaffe's (or any HJD attenidng) office once a week. This gives you exposure to the people who make the decsions.
3)Make sure to be at the HJD conferences on Wed.
All the best and good luck!
