How does my application look?

Package:

-high ranked undergrad university
-high ranked medical school
-Step 1: 239
-Step 2: will defer (mistake?)
-preclinical: pass/fail
-3rd yr: H in Surgery, Fam Medicine, Neuro, Psych; HP in Medicine, OB, Peds
-Research publications: 1 research paper (3rd author), 1 case report (1st author), 1 review article (1st author) (all in good ortho journals), presented other abstracts at meetings of AAOS and ACS and others as first author.
-2 non-ortho publications (in public policy) prior to entering medical school
-Obtained MPH during medical school
-Extracurriculars: Pres of several groups such as community service organizations, ortho groups, and more. Also TA several 1st yr classes


So what does anyone think? Competitive at a top northeast program? Any advice on programs in my range? Anything definitely out?
You are competitive of course but your app doesn't jump out of the pack. There are probably 100 other applicants with just as much research, just as many community service projects, more honors, and a higher step 1 score, who also decided to take step 2 and release the score.

I say all this to say that numbers are one thing, but they really won't put you over the top. Its your away rotations, your letters, and your interviews that will make the difference. So you shouldn't be screened out with your stats (I'm unaware of any programs that have a Step 1 filter higher than a 230), but once you get the interview the real work begins.
