Pros and Cons.

I am coming from a small U.S. school who doesnt have a huge ortho department but has a relationship with another bigger school. How many Schools should I try to do aways at. We have a chance to do as many as 4. What do you all recommend?
Well...

theoretically you would do as many aways as possible; however, the reality of it is that you should do as many aways that you can realistically complete with 110% effort.

doing an away is quite strenuous for the obvious reasons and it can be difficult to keep the same level of intensity after 2 or 3 away rotations.

One needs to be mindful of the fact that while you doing >3 aways will increase your matching odds, if you are not able to maintain the same intensity through every single rotation, you may actually hurt your chances.

I have heard of people doing 2 aways and a 3rd-two week rotation, and i've also heard of people doing 3 or 4 rotations. The decision is up to you.

I think doing 2 or 3 (at most) is ideal and will allow you to better direct your efforts.

hope that helps

OG makes some good points. SubIs blow, but they are essentially the best way to get a spot. I would suggest only going to places where you are really interested in matching. Pick your 3 favorite places, if you like 2 of them a lot and the 3rd a little less then do 2 aways. If it's a toss up between the 3 do 3. Most people do 2 and their home program (3 total).
