Any sense for how competitive ortho is going to be this year? For people with interviews, have you heard if there are more applicants than last year? I would be interested in the trajectory ortho is on from the perspective of current applicants.
I'm not sure how many more applicants there are this year but my home institution received around 800 applications which is up from last year by %15 or so. Looking at past data the Step 1 average continues to increase as well. So "yes" it is getting more competitive and it is more difficult to separate yourself from the average. I posit that rotations will become more important in the future and institutions will be inviting fewer non-rotators and rotations applications will be getting screened more extensively. Just my .02.
