Please help me decipher my HSS letter. The lines to translate -- "It is with great pleasure that we acknowledge your outstanding academic record and notable performance during the interview process. It is for these reasons that you will be included in our ranking list, which will be submitted to the National Residency Match Program."
I am not sure if "ranking list" means 40th on the list they send in or if I am going to match by ranking them number one.

What did you receive?

Thank you very much for any help.
I did not receive this letter but my understanding of what you posted is that you have been ranked somewhere on their list. Many programs interview a certain number but only rank a portion of them. For instance, my home school interviews 100 but only ranks 30. I'd be pretty happy if I were you.

My understanding is that the top 8 get a letter from HSS essentially saying that they are in the top 8 or ranked to match or something along those lines, the next group (slot #9 to however many they decide to rank) get the letter you described, while the rest get told that they will not be ranked. So it seems you are in the middle group somewhere. Strong work.

Having known someone who received this last year and did not match at HSS, I agree with the above. While I may be off on the numbers, it's something like they interview 20 people, rank 12, for 8 spots. So now it's all about where those top 8 want to go. Essentially, you're one of the top 12 orthopedic surgery candidates in the country. Good job.

I truly hope I missed the sarcasm in the last sentence.

Hi,

Could you please give a bit on your profile? Perhaps academic/USMLE performance, research history, extracurricular endeavors etc. Anything would be much appreciated by this budding orthopod.

Thanks
