I am a nonrotator who will be interviewing at HSS this month. Wanted to know what the mandatory resident housing was like. Anticipating the housing to be pretty nice since the facilities are supposed to be awesome. Any comments would help. Cost, quality, size? Do we get a tour of the housing on the interview day? (My chances of getting in as a nonrotator could be a future topic)
HSS housing isn't something spectacular, but it's nice for the price (considering Manhattan real estate prices are like its buildings; sky high). It's about 2 blocks away from the hospital on E. 71st St. There is a doorman at the facility and depending on what room you happen to get, you may be in either a studio apartment or a 1-bedroom. The building is average size; you're not going to be seeing the Manhattan skyline from your window. But the rent is nicely subsidized... I'm not sure if a tour is included in the interview process.
