Hey everyone,
First of all congrats to everyone getting ready to start their intern years. I'm a 4th year medical student at a medical school in the carribean and have dreams of obtaining an ortho residency in next years match. I have been discouraged along the way by numerous physicians who tell me it is virtually impossible for me to secure an ortho residency as an IMG. Despite this I refuse to give up on my dream, and I am determined to make my dream come true. I was wondering if anyone has any experience as far as IMGs are concerned, or any advice/words of wisdom for me. My Step 1 score is 241 (97). I will be taking Step 2 in august. I have a 3.9 GPA and am currently involved in one research project but have no publications as of yet. I know that my step 2 will probably be more important than my step 1 because I am an IMG. Will research be more important for me also? And if so, does it matter that I have not been published yet? Also what is an appropriate number of programs that I should apply to. Lastly, does anyone know of any programs that are IMG friendly or would at least consider an IMG to do an elective rotation there? If anyone could give me any advice i'd appreciate it. Thanks.
