Just wondering if anybody has been nominated or specifically heard back a yeh or neh on acceptance. We have been waiting a minimum of 2 months if not 3 and still no word. Also, in the past how have they handed this out? We were required to have honored at least 2 of the first 3 clerkships (with AOA saying 3 was "much more competitive). Do they look at the first 2 years much and research or is this sort of a tie-breaker? Do they only accept so many or anybody meeting criteria? We were told they would probably take 4 out of about a 100 students in the class.

We have known about jAOA for about two months at my school, but every program does it differently. I am told that local chapters have quite a bit of say over criteria, and that some places don't even use grades, scores, etc, but rather "leadership," "involvement", and other subjectives. I can't confirm this. Also, I am told that chapters ARE bound by how many students can receive both junior and senior AOA. Statement is that up to 15%of the class can receive AOA; only 1/4 of those can be junior. This sounds consistant with what you are saying about 3-4 from a class of 100. My understanding at my school is that they base it completely on class rank, and go to board scores or something else to break ties. I apologize that a lot of this is unsubstantiated, but it's all I have. If you're like me, even rumors feed the hunger. I can't tell you how good it felt to find out. I walk around like I've outgrown my scrubs.

Good luck, brother.

either that or the wind is blowing in just the right direction or could be the 'rhoids' bloat. Thanks for the information so I can ruminate about it a wee more. Congratulation, have a frosty beverage on me if we ever cross paths.

I have been waiting for quite a while on my nomination as well. I think every school does do it differently, so who knows when we will find out. Needless to say, my scrubs are fitting just fine right now. They may be getting a little tight in the waist while I wait, but I don't need maternity scrubs yet.

contact your dean of student affairs' office and ask them. It is done differently at every school and they will be the only ones who can tell you about your own school. Best of luck.
