hey, i just heard yesterday about my step 1 scores - 219/89. i have looked through the previous posts and seen the scores of people who matched, but what is your advice about my position? Just in case you are wondering which school I go, I go to UMKC (I am in the six year route out of high school) and a rotation will be needed through our ortho department and a letter will be needed from our chairman. My preclinical grades were below average my MS 1 and about average my MS 2. Any good advice would be appreciated, thanks.
good luck, your chairman is, well, err, difficult to get along with and is rather legendary on the interview trail, enough so that many people dont apply at UMKC b/c of him. That being said, i think he gives people who were in the military extra consideration, as well as people who did not match their first try. He is very big into ethics, so i would walk the straight and narrow path if you know what i mean. Good luck

thanks, i have heard many things about him, from this forum and from residents and practicing physicians who have gone through this program. one more question, i know it is too early, but when do you think i should take step 2, with the fact that our class has to take the CSA exam with step 2 - i will expand more on these questions later on this year, once i am ready to start scheduling.

I would work you ass off this year, try to learn as much as you can possibly learn during your rotations (board scores come from work in class, not cramming before the exam) and hit step II early. If you can show them a step II in the 230+ range, it may help give a little boost to the 219. Good luck.

i agree about taking step 2 early and rocking it. Clinical rotation grades and the deans letter (basically a composition of the subjective comments made about you on rotations) also carry a lot of weight.
