Any opinions on Kzoo. I went to undergrad there, really like the city, and I'm trying to learn more about the program. ANY info/contacts would be greatly appreciated.
I thought it was a good program from my interview and would have ranked it highly but my wife did not like her program there. Anyway from what I remember they take 3 a year. Cover 2 hospitals. Home call. Good group of residents. Staff seemed nice. Chairman announced he was stepping down but not sure when this is going to take place.

As a graduating chief I can ive ou some good insights.

I really enjoyed my time there and felt I got great training in a non-malignant, family friendly environment. I will graduate with over 2300 cases and the other chief has more than me. We get great fellowships (I am doing trauma at Carolinas med center, the other chief is doing sports in LA. Recent fellowships have been Case western for spine, denver for spine, UPenn for shoulder, Columbia in NYC for shoulder, Baltimore for foot/ankle)

It is true that Dr Lyne has stepped down as chairman and Dr Rowe (a current longstanding faculty) has taken his place. they are actively looking for more faculty, especially a peds guy.

If anyone has any other Kalamazoo specific questions feel free to email me at chriswisemd@hotmail.com

Mich State-Kalamazoo is definitely a sleeper program- great place and only getting better with the addition of 1 resident per year. Great training, good lifestyle, many perks including home call and free food. The residents seem very happy and are well prepared for fellowships or private practice.

If you get a chance to interview there, find Ben Wilson. Tell him that the Sun Valley Resort is looking for him and Chad Conner. They have spent a fortune trying to get the smell out of their hotel room and want them to pay for damages.

kzoo was nice - #3 on my list. the area is nice and the city is close to chicago, so there is some fairly nearby stuff to do. the residents seemed like good people and the perks were nice too. im not sure about their experience, so i wont say anything there.
