like many ms3's out there, i am currently deciding on where to do my away rotations, and since location will be important for me, i wanted to get some feedback on the two kansas city programs. basically, i've heard that UKKC is "malignant" and that at UMKC you have to do an away rotation to match-- basically a bunch of 3rd hand bs rumors. anyway, for those who are familiar with these programs, and you had one to rotate at, which one would you choose and why?
thanks for the input.

Honestly, I think you may have you rumors mixed up a bit. I have heard that UMKC is the malignant one with a real prick for a Chair. I didn't apply or rotate at either, but I have heard horror stories about the interview day at UMKC.

I don't know anything about UKKC, but Ortho2003 has it right on the money about the prick for a chair at UMKC. It was the worst interview I went on and I did not end up even ranking the program because I would rather become a pediatrician than spend 5 years working under that jerk. There were some old posts written about the miserable interview with him.
Good luck... :smokin:

I interviewed at UKKC last year and really liked it. The chairman, Bruce Toby is a great guy, and the residents seemed to be a great bunch as well. The only big negative was that they were, by far, the most worn out, exhausted looking group I met on the trail. Of course, I know that is just one day, but first impressions last, you know. The fact that they are q3 in house through something like their first 3 years doesn't help, either. All in all, a good program with a great chair, but you will bust your ass all the way through.

i interviewed at both, here is my opinion
UMKC- dont apply there. Seriously. The chairman (Hamilton) is a grade A @#$%&*( in my opinion. Actual quotes "you wont like me" "Dont think i wont fire you". I also was not that impressed with the residents.
KU in KC - i liked this place and would have been happy to go there, but i ended up higher on my list. The chairman there is very nice, and all the interviews were cool also. there is also a resident there that was a year ahead of me in med school and he had nothing but good things to say.

Thats my 2 cents
