Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me of people that were able to match into ortho without alot of clinical 3rd year honors, like lets say only 2? I am asking because someone told me that programs put alot of weight on 3rd year honors and although I am sure I will do well on Step 2, I am not sure whether a small amount of 3rd year honors will mess me up.
You can match with sparse third year honors....however you will not get interviews at the big name places....

If your goal is simply to get an ortho spot..provided you have 230 ish or better step one, good letters, and good recs...expect to find yourself getting interviews from the mid to lower tier places.....

Some of the big places put a lot of emphasis on AOA...so those places are out for you....so dont waste applications to Duke, HSS, Wash U, Seattle, RUSH...your best bet will be in the south and midwest where the geography makes it slightly less competitive.....

Third year grades are subjective and vary widely by school and who evaluates you....at my med school only 15% got honors.....I can tell you there are plenty of guys in residency who were maybe top third but top 15% is pretty tough.....

I got interviews at all those places without having AOA brosif. Then again, the rest of my application is rock solid. Don't not apply to some place just bc you don't have AOA
