Has anyone got the alleged letter from the Mayo Clinic, or is this Orthogate legend?
I received one such letter from the Mayo Clinic the year I applied. I don't know if the Mayo is still sending them out this year, but I'd imagine that they would continue to do so, if only to bolster their rankings with applicants.

The letter I received said something to the effect that I was "an exceptional candidate, and should have no problem matching at the Mayo should [I] choose to do so." I'm not quoting verbatim. I'm not sure exactly what the letter meant, either. It sounded as though I was not ranked to match, but that I was within a tier of their rank list where I could match with them if I ranked them No. 1.

Hope this helps.

I was wondering about the infamous letter as well, so I emailed the residency coordinator and asked about it. I got an email back saying they have finished their rank list and divided the list into three categories: excellent, good, and fair, and she told me what category I fell into. Nothing was said about any letters in the mail. A few residents there said they did not receive letters, but did get a phone call just before the ranking deadline.
Sounds like some get letters, some get phone calls..... hope that doesn't confuse the issue more!

I also did the same thing as Halemary and found out which tier I'm in. So there's probably no letters this year but you can find out via e-mail from Natalie Hanson.

Colles and Halemary,
If you don't mind me asking, were you both in the "excellent" tier and therefore are fairly confident that there will be no communication between mayo and its applicants? I apologize for my paranoid behavior, but it is very hard to come by information. Also, thank you for stepping up and sharing what you know. Seems to a lot of oral constipation as of recent.

As with Colles and Halemary, I e-mailed Natalie. She told me I am in the "good" category and that I could contact Dr. Hanssen with any questions/further info. She mentioned nothing of a letter, but I think that if letters have not been sent by now, it is getting pretty late and probably are not coming (although I am not in the "excellent" group -- maybe they already got letters and are just not speaking up). :smokin:

I'm in the same boat at OrthoDreamer...I just assumed there wouldn't be letters at this relatively late time...maybe the excellents got more communication? Either way....it shouldn't really affect your rank list. Best of luck!

I did end up receiving an email yesterday, it sounds a lot like what yellowjournal received. I was in the excellent category per Natalie Hanson...
Good luck ya'll!
