Hey Everyone,
As we rising 4th years figure out schedules, aways etc., a question came to mind: Is there any value in setting up a mini-away?/has anyone done one before that can speak to this issue...?
By mini-away I mean a <4wk away elective in a arranged (less formalized elective curriculum) kind of way. As many away electives include 2week blocks on a service, to me it would make sense that you could squeeze in just a 2 week visit for example if the institution could be talked into it...
Now I'm not proposing to do this for great evals, letters, etc., but I feel that I could get a pretty good handle on an area and a program in 2 weeks and I should at least be slightly more memorable than not having spent any time there at all as a rotator, right?
The issue for me is that even if scheduling 3 aways, for most, if not all of us, we could benefit from closer looks at other programs on our application list (and they could benefit from getting to know me better of course ) This especially makes sense to me in locations/programs where you know someone in the area and can get housing/travel very cheaply.
Anyway, you get the picture. Just wondering if anyone had personal insight on this *potential* issue....
Thanks in advance!!!
