This may seem like a naive quesion... but would I have any diffuculty getting into an ortho program with above a 240 on the boards. My main concern is I am not a huge guy. As much as I lift... I just dont seem to get big. Also how important is it to honor every rotation during third year? What levels of programs can I apply to with my scores. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Your main concern should be that, despite the fact you say you're not a huge guy, you sound like a huge retard. Who gives a rat's $&* about your body habitus???!!!! You rocked the boards and you should just concentrate on doing well this year for now. If that happens, everything will fall into place when the time comes.

PhillyOrtho, I have seen some really skinny people in ortho. I wouldn't worry about size. Just focus on your grades and get to know some people. I am assuming you go to school in Philly. If I am not mistaken, only PCOM doesn't have an ortho program. If you attend any of the MD schools there, you should get to know some people now, if you have not done so yet. Rotate there early as a 4th year and schedule maybe a couple of away rotations.

I disagree with all the above. I think you're at a significant disadvantage PhillyOrtho...Board scores, AOA and research will only get you so far. I suggest one of the following:

- get on a serious weight lifting program with a couple of meat heads -- the ones who wear the baggy pants/tank tops...eat 6 raw eggs every morning and run up the Art Museum steps before surgery rounds like Rocky did.

-- take a few dumbells with you to your interviews...right before they call you in, do a few sets to get that "pump" on them bi's and tri's...and wear a really tight suit to accentuate your puny muscles

-- every 10 steps you take, drop and do 20 pushups...this is a sure fire method of pumping up them chicken pecs of yours.

-- if none of the above work, I would seriously consider steroids...start as early as possible preferably before interview season so you can maximize muscle gain.

-- When you introduce yourself at the interview, subtly throw in your bench press...as in "I'm PhillyOrtho, I bench 140".

I'm just trying to help you, cause board scores > 240 mean "Squat" if you don't have the Bench Press to go along with it.

True dat Mickey,

I've heard that at a lot of the bigger, high-powered programs they place a HUGE emphasis on how far your forehead juts out over your eyes...

Also back acne...it's all about the back acne. ):)

We should start a new post that has arm length to board score ratio. "If your knuckles don't drag on the ground then you don't stand a snowballs chance in h$%& of matching ortho." ):) I have even heard of Ortho directors lining interviewees up naked and measuring their girth. So if I were you, I might also invest in a pump or maybe some "Longitude"

Sorry I asked a stupid question... like I said in my post... I knew it was a naive question... I just wanted to know what people's opinion was because it was something I had heard from a few people.
Sorry I asked.

Man, you guys are harsh.

PO, your issue is a real concern. I purposely didn't study for step I, and I spent my entire radiology rotation in the weight room just so I could increase my Bench press:step one ratio. and then I put the Bench press:step one ration in my "special accomplishments" section of my ap. :roll smile:

Sorry, I couldn't resist. but come on PO, you had to realize that that was a bad question when you typed it out.
