Esteemed colleagues,

PGY1 Ortho intern checking in.

As my first post I'd like to both offer resources to our fellow MSIII peers as well as wish the best of luck to the current class of MSIVs who are anxiously awaiting match day! The following are inexpensive pocket books and online resources that may be of benefit for the aspiring applicants.

General medicine pocket book for 3rd/4th year clerkship:

Rapid interpretation of EKGs]http://www.amazon.com/Rapid-Interpretat ... 752&sr=1-1

Pharmacopia, deluxe edition (with interactions, etc rather than just dosing)]http://www.amazon.com/Tarascon-Pocket-P ... 789&sr=1-2

Netter's concise ortho anatomy]http://www.amazon.com/Netters-Concise-O ... 845&sr=1-1

Tolerances]http://www.amazon.com/Tolerances-Orthop ... 845&sr=1-7

Pocket Orthopaedica]http://www.amazon.com/Tarascon-Pocket-O ... 45&sr=1-11

Ortho Intern survival guide]http://www.amazon.com/Orthopaedic-Inter ... 27&sr=1-17

Gen Surg Intern survival guide]http://www.amazon.com/Surgical-Intern-P ... 727&sr=1-1

Web links]http://www.studentdoctor.net/

Orthogate]http://www.orthogate.org/

VuMedi]http://www.vumedi.com/

OR-Live]http://www.orlive.com/

Full disclosure: my brother works for amazon.com. None of these links benefit him or me directly (they were found via general search by title).

I found these resources valuable as an MSIII/MSIV and as a PGY1 in Ortho.

I hope these resources are of value to you as well.

Best,
jb

I have perused vumedi before with an orthopaedist, but when I tried to register for myself I got the message indicating that vumedi is for licensed orthopaedists only (and now they seem to have blocked me completely, haha). Has anyone out there actually gotten vumedi to grant an account to a student?

nope, just went to register and figured they wouldn't give me access, but a while later got an e-mail saying it had been approved and I could view videos but not comment or rate

Seeing as how most residents have smartphones, and more are buying iPads by the day, I have been interested in evaluating and reviewing Ortho-Apps for these devices. My article in CORR (July 2011) was the 2nd most popular downloaded article for the last 6 months, but it's already out of date because the apps keep changing.

I made a website to help residents (or students/attendings) keep up to date with the most useful apps for orthopaedic surgery. It's at www.TopOrthoApps.com. Some may flag this post as SPAM, and I hope that does not become the case. The website is free, I receive no income from it, there are no advertisements, and I collect no personal information. This is just information that will benefit residents (and others) who treat orthopaedic problems.

Hopefully you guys find it useful]http://www.TopOrthoApps.com. Enjoy.

Bread and butter books:

Campbells
http://www.amazon.com/Campbells-Operati ... 032301240X

Hoppenfeld
http://www.amazon.com/Surgical-Exposure ... 0781776236

More on a resident level. No surprise to residents. Some students may find it valuable.

I wish you all the best,
