Can you write two personal statements and send one to community schools and one to academic schools?
Yeah, you can. I wrote one for academic places, one for community places, and one that had my MCAT scores included at the end (some of the places want MCAT scores in the personal statement). You can even make a different personal statement for each program you apply to, if you want- but I haven't heard of anyone doing that.

Just curious, why do you want different letters at community vs academic? Are you planning on BS'ing the academics into believing you realy like research?

What are the different "spins" you were thinking of using?

You can definitely have mutiple personal statements. In fact, I think it was HJD that wanted a personal statement specific to them (ie why do you want to go there).

To all of those applying this year. It is important that you check the web sites of all of the programs you are applying to BEFORE you submit your eras. A few want your MCAT at the bottom of your personal statement and some will have other requirements (such as your undergrad transcripts... one even wanted a high school class rank...)... You wil not get any email requests for this stuff and it must be in by the deadline. Best of luck!!!
