New programs, new cities??

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any new programs in the works...

I found it a little interesting that some major US cities such as Las Vegas, Tampa, FL, Austin TX, San Jose CA, Ft Lauderdale, FL, etc do not have a program

Also the fact that some entire states do not have any programs i.e. Maine, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota. Surely there are orthopaedic surgeons in these states.

It's also interesting to me that major metropolitan areas such as Detroit (6 spots) and Phoenix (2 spots) have so few spots and other areas such as Akron, OH (6 spots) and Danville, PA (2 spots) have as many.

Just something to think about I suppose
tampa used to have a program but it closed quite some time back. It was affiliated with U of South Florida.

If you count Royal Oak, which is a suburb of Detroit, it's actually 10 (William Beaumont). Wayne State was also a fairly large program when it closed.

I don't get Phoenix. Fifth largest city in America and they didn't have ANY spots this year. Maricopa wasn't in the match.

maricopa closed a few years back. they are starting a new program this year in the match w/ 2 spots which filled at phoenix good samaritan hospital. long term goals are obviously to expand the program by gradually increasing the number of residents per year.

I've heard a rumor that Las vegas is trying to set up a DO program, but I haven't been able to find anything about it. Also, Ft Lauderdale has a DO program at Broward General Hospital.
