When you say the secretary refuses to let you know what is going on with your application, what exactly is she telling you? A lot of programs have to wait for approval from the Office of the Registrar, so maybe you could contact them. I was in a similar situation: I applied for an away, received no response, e-mailed the contact person several times without a response, figured my app was rejected, then got a confirmation e-mail out of the blue after two and a half months of silence.

There is no information included in the application regarding my credentials. I therefore am sure that my not receiving paper confirmation has nothing to do with being "approved". I think I just fell through the cracks.

I got the impression that the secretary not being willing to give be any information was because she did not want to investigate the situation by looking me up in the computer.

Still, I would appreciate some input about what avenue to pursue in handling this problem.

I waited a while to hear a response on aways. I also kept bothering a secretary. I was then told by a family member in the biz - to LAY OFF. They all have their formats they go through. I would call and make sure your application is received and complete and then leave them alone. If you have no backups, I would start calling some places to see if there are any open spots. I have heard LOTS of people getting aways at the last minute. Don't give up and don't piss off the secretaries - you want them on your side! I'm sure you'll get your spot! Hang in there
