Position Description:The Department of Orthopaedics at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking candidates for its Orthopaedic Research Fellowship for the 2024-2025 academic year. Ambitious, self-motivated, hard-working, bright medical students interested in a full-time, paid research fellowship at the main Ohio State University campus in Columbus, OH, are welcome to apply. This fellowship opportunity is directed by Vice Chair of Education Dr. Kanu Goyal, MD, and Vice Chair of Research Dr. Nathaniel Bates, PhD. The successful applicant will have the unique opportunity to engage in clinical and laboratory-based research across multiple divisions within the Department of Orthopaedics. Through this diversity of projects, fellows will be extended ample opportunities for publication in peer-reviewed medical journals. It is anticipated that the fellow should generate 10+ peer-reviewed publications by the end of the research year. In addition, abstract submission and presentation at national conference will be encouraged. This will be a funded position with a monthly stipend.
- Research study coordination- Development and submission of protocols to the Ohio State University IRB
- Ethical consent of study patients- Collection of clinical and laboratory research data
- Management of study data- Statistical analysis and interpretation of study data
- Dissemination of study data through manuscript and abstract writing, editing, and submission
This will be a 1-year fellowship experience beginning prior to 07/01/2024 and extending through June 2025. This opportunity will offer substantial benefit to the applicant, including:

Candidates interested in applying should be a US medical student between M3/M4, exhibit a strong desire to pursue a clinical career in Orthopaedic surgery, show tangible interest in research activities, maintain a strong academic record, demonstrate independent work ethic and high level of self-motivation. Applicant should have strong organizational skills as they will be expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Functional knowledge of statistics and ability to implement statistical software is preferred.
