Wanted to stir up some thoughts on the size of a program. What are the advantages/disadvantages of going to a huge program like Mayo (12/yr) vs. a small program like Rush (2/yr). Obviously, the larger programs have the volume and depth of teaching faculty to take more residents, but can you get caught in the shuffle? Or even worse, get a bad track and not work with the best attendings?

first of all, rush has 4/year and mayo has 10/yr. after that, there are pros and cons to size of program. sure you can get lost in the shuffle in a big program and on the same note, it is hard to hide at a small program. it is all about how you feel about the place when you interview. if you looked at my final rank list, i had programs that were huge and others that were small. my advice is to try and steer away from 2/yr places if you are at all concerned about class size. nothing worse than having a very small program and a couple tools!!
