Just a couple of questions about research for ortho and residency in general.
1. Does the research have to be specific to the field you want to enter? I think ortho is what I want, but haven't done any ortho research. I have research in biochem, cancer and urology.
2. Does it matter how long ago the research was done? I'm on three publications in 2000-2001 (research done during undergrad years). My most recent research projects (while in med school) have been during the summer, no publications.
I just started 3rd year and probably won't have much time for research until 4th year. I do ortho in Oct/Nov and don't think I'll know for sure if that's what I want until then. Step1 and grades I think will be competitive enough.
Thanks in advance.
