Reading previous posts about what to do if one does not match seems to favor doing a research year. Anyone know how to get an ortho research spot that pays? Anyone know how much it might pay.
Thanks for any assistance.
university of maryland offered everyone it rejected this year the opportunity to apply for a research spot. i'm guessing it pays. think i'll hold out for the match first though.

Penn has a 2-year NIH research fellowship that is fully funded including stipend and health insurance. Rather than go into details now, if anyone is interested, PM me, and I'll give you more info.

Previous post from 1/16/04 Advanced Positions BB:

The University of Virginia is currently seeking applicants for a one-year research fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Exceptional performance during the research year will gain special consideration in the orthopaedics match for a clinical residency position at the University of Virginia.

Previous research fellows had completed preliminary surgical internships or were seeking to transfer to orthopaedics from another subspecialty residency program. Post-graduate training or research experience is preferred but not required. The position includes full resident salary and benefits. Attendance at resident conferences and participation in the OR is also offered to each research fellow.

Applicants should forward a cover letter, CV, board scores and transcripts to:
