For those of you who don't mind, post your final ROL here. And please, DO NOT post a message on this thread unless it includes your ROL. Good luck to all!

MCG
Greenville
Charlotte
UFlorida
Wake
I wanted a smaller program with good clinical exposure, some but not much research, and a good faculty to resident relationship in the southeast.

why is everyone's list so short? part of my ranks are due to the wife's career and i'd rather burn for 5 years than spend another day in snow.

I'm a long time listener, first time caller:

1) UPenn
2) Einstein (Philly)
3) Jefferson
4) Mt. Sinai
5) Robert Wood Johnson
6) Tufts (NEMC)
7) Brown

I have to say as a "newbie" the forum has been quite informative for me and I think that more people should be aware of it.

In terms of my ROL, I am obviously partial to Philly, but think Mt. Sinai has a terrific program and would rank it higher if not for extenuating circumstances. I think this exercise is very educational, especially if you write a little something to explain your list.

I'm also long-time listener, first time caller.

Here it goes:

1. MUSC
2. Maryland
3. Louisville
4. Miami
5. UAB
6. Carolinas
7. Case Western

My ROL was driven more by location and attitude of residents than by reputation.

top 5... this is how people posted last year...

1) Brown
2) Case
3) Penn
4) NYU/HJD
5) UVM

I could see myself at every program above... actually all but one program on my full list would make me very happy on match day... i guess i got lucky with interviews.

I am couple's matching so my list doesn't really look like this... but this is essentially the order

This is the product of compromise but in the end i am VERY happy with it (an important feeling to have for all you couples matching next year!... compromise but don't sacrifice!)

good luck to all... "black monday" (the only day that really counts) is only 19 days away!

For what it's worth from a new user:

1. UVA
2. Harvard
3. Maryland
4. Brown
5. Pitt

Also loved the smaller private programs = Greenville, Carolinas, Akron, AGH
In the end, though, I don't want to close any career doors and I'm hungry for the
challenges of an academic program.

UVA is a program on the rise and charlottesville is a kick ass small college town
for married folk.

Okay, I will play along...

1. Grand Rapids
2. Akron General
3. Kalamazoo
4. Fort Wayne
5. University of Kentucky
6. William Beaumont

Obviously, looking for a smaller community program in the midwest. I know UK doesn't fit the community bill, but I got a good feel and the chicks are hot. Just don't tell my wife I said that!

BP's list:

1.Carolinas.......... as rounded as a Lane Bryant model
2.Portland.......... wicked shizznit program director and the mountains
3.Madison Wisconsin.......... sweet town and residents
4.U of Kentucky.......... stellar scope experience and top notch eye candy
5.Akron General.......... well-rounded, just cold
6.Kalamazoo.......... operate a @$%&-load, cool guys, nice lifestyle
7.Greenville..........didn't fit in quite as well as the others. "you know you're in the bible belt when there's more churches than Starbucks"

Overall wanted good fit with residents, operate my arse off, cool city that wouldn't make my sack retract, more academic than some community programs but with little to no pressure/emphasis on research.

1. Northwestern
2. Rush
3. NEMC

Choice based on the '4R' system: Rotations, Rumors, Reputations. and Residents. Hope to end up with some cool co-residents. Hardest part of the rank list was sorting out the middle 4-9. 10 and beyond were sort of a crap shoot. Ill be happy anywhere...I think. Cheers

3. Hopkins
4. Texas-Houston
5. Wake Forest

Overall, wanted a "great fit" program w/ strong research ops, good tumor experience, solid rep in every other subspecialty, great residents, cool 'tendings, strong chair, bigger city not in NE, and surgical skillz second to none.

Go Bucks!

now we just gotta wait - but hopefully the incoming classes will have some quality dudes/dudettes.

rock 'em if you got 'em

Well, I guess I can give anyone (Rakmala) a couple of minutes to change his rank list, so here goes:

1) Greenville - All around great and cover everything, young staff, great Shriners, laid back residents, and in one of the best all around mid-sized cities in the nation right in between Atlanta and Charlotte, right beside the mountains and near enough to the beach.
2) Charlotte - Perks baby, Perks. Same as Greenville, except the name may be a little bigger as well as the city, really nice hospital, higher cost of living, less outdoors stuff right around town.
3) Gainesville - Kick butt staff and residents, nice college town, close to lots of extracurricular activities, sweeeet schedule and lots o' elective procedures, brand new huge clinic going up.
4) Chattanooga - Chairman alone makes you want to go there, young staff, great outdoors town, nice downtown, close to three larger cities, low cost of living, trauma out the wazoo, mix of community and academic program, beautiful place to work.
5) UNC - Best college town in Southeast, preceptor based program with lots o' volume, Chapel Hill/Durham/Raleigh can't be beat.

I was going for:
How well do the staff and residents get along, How do I fit in with the current residents
Is this place going to be nice to live for five years, or even for a career
Are there plenty of opportunities to do things outside the city
and location in the nation.

Good luck to all - OSB ):)

Big Ern: It all comes down to this roll. Roy Munson, a man-child, with a dream to topple bowling giant Ernie McCracken. If he strikes, he's the 1979 Odor-Eaters Champion. He's got one foot in the frying pan and one in the pressure cooker. Believe me, as a bowler, I know that right about now, your bladder feels like an overstuffed vacuum cleaner bag and your butt is kinda like an about-to-explode bratwurst.

Roy: Hey! Do you mind? I wasn't talking when you were bowling.

Big Ern: Was I talking out loud? Was I? Sorry...gooooooood luck.

1. UT-Houston - incredible chairman, program with great trauma experience as well as good elective rotations, nice city
2. USC - great trauma, seemed to have enough elective time, great city
3. Baylor - similar to USC but with an interim chair...
4. UTSW - great program, incredible rep, great residents, lots of trauma
5. Maricopa - a bit of a risky pick but i really liked the chair and the direction the program is moving, great city
6. Rochester - might have been No. 1, best overall balance of specialties, super nice chairman and great residents..a bit cold and the city was a little less lively than some of the others

Looked for good balance between trauma and elective experience, less focus on research, also, location played a huge role. There are programs lower on my rank list that would probably prepare me just as well, but had cities that were less desirable to me. Good luck to everyone!!!

OK. The West Coast has been underrepresented in this forum. Here is my top seven. It is somewhat regional.
1. UC Irvine
2. UCLA
3. Harbor, UCLA
4. UC San Diego
5. San Francisco Program
6. Loma Linda
7. Univ of Southern Cal

I would like to stay in California and, luckily, there are some exceptional programs there. Most important factors to me were location and how I felt I would get along with the residents and staff.
Good luck to everyone.

1. UVA - great city and residents
2. Mayo - amazing place
3. Grand Rapids - nice people, lots of cases
4. Kalamazoo - same as Grand rapids, but a little smaller
5. Med College Wisconsin - cool residents
6. Rochester - power program

I went with a mix of academic and community programs. In the end, though, gut feel is what decided it.
