With the rotations I have left I just can't seem to motiviate myself to read/work like I did 3rd year. I work hard while I am at the hospital, but besides that really just try to get out of the rotation what I want and might use down the road. Just wanted to see if anyone else was a "slacker" like me - I just can't stop feeling bad about it.
Stop feeling bad. Seriously. Third year is about learning medicine and figuring out what you want to do. The beginning of fourth year is all about matching orthopaedics and the end of fourth year is about. . . . absolutely nothing. Relax. Enjoy life. Travel. Workout. Read for something other than work. Play poker. Go out with friends. Leave early when you can. Other than the lack of cash flow, the latter half of my fourth year was probably one of the most enjoyable times of my life. It is unlikely that you will ever have another time in your life where you will have more freetime and less responsibility. Take advantage of it. You will pick up the basics you need to know to survive residency in the first few months of your internship so trying to "prepare" for it is just spinning your tires.
