Hi I have been accepted for both away rotations but only need to do one more. Which one would be most beneficial? I'd attend residency at either location the Sub-I would be in September so I don't know that it would be helpful for a LOR for ERAS. Thoughts?

I'm bias since I live in IC. Come up to Iowa for a rotation. Great names to work with. Maybe score a nice big LOR. Plenty of time for a letter with a rotation in September.

And I'm probably biased because I just graduated from SLU.

It depends what you're looking for when you go to match. I can't speak about Iowa from personal experience, only from hearsay. However, it does have name cache, with big name attendings, and truly, no one in the country can question Iowa's rep.

What I can speak to SLU as a former resident is that if you are interested in matching here, the best thing you can do is rotate here and kill it. If you show up on the trauma service and are a stud (and you don't annoy the hell out of the residents)you can match here no problem. You can also get letters from Moed and Watson, which can go a long way with the right people. One of the downsides is that it's only a three week long rotation, which isn't our fault but that has to do with the med school. I think it's dumb but we have no control over it.

Long story short, if you're serious about possibly matching at SLU (wife from St Louis or something like that), I would do it there. If you want to get a letter from a big name place, I would rotate at Iowa.

If you have any questions in particular about SLU, PM me, I'd be happy to answer any particulars you might have.
