I wanted to poll some of the recent residents about smaller community programs that are rotator friendly and operator heavy.... I dont really care about location too much.

I am planning my aways, probably doing 3... plus one at my home school... since my step 1 is not that strong I wanted to focus more on smaller programs that most applicants with exceptional step 1 scores over look... therefore I rotate a month there and help my chances....

thanks

any input would be great
Southern Illinois- (community/academic hybrid) operate early and often, nice facilities, modern surgical skills lab, great supportive chair and PD, low cost of living.

Just matched here!

I interviewed at, and really liked Akron General. They have psychotic benefits, the residents are cool, and they have pretty outstanding facilities. Although I matched at a place a little higher on my rank list - I would've been happy to end up there.

I would not rely on smaller programs being easier to get into or have lower board scores. I would look at smaller programs if you are interested but not as a backdoor into ortho. They get hundreds of applications for 2-3 spots.

id agree with billm - i know some smaller places get 400 apps for 2 spots.

when i interviewed (split 50-50 between "academic" and "community"), I thought the best community places were Mount Carmel and Kalamazoo. Both places operate a TON in a laid back environment and the residents seemed like a tight, cohesive group - unlike many other places I saw.

University of South Alabama is very rotator friendly and operates a ton. They tend to rank very highly on the list of people who have rotated or are otherwise familiar with the program.

It's a smaller program with mix of academics/community.

I would also look at Scott & White and Richland Memorial.
