I am an R1 currently in a prelim year in gen surg and today just was informed I was awarded a civilian sponsorship from the Air Force. For those who don't know, what this means is that the Air Force pays my way for 4-5 years to do an ortho residency at a civilian program.
Does anybody know of any programs that are currently seeking to take an extra resident either as an R2 or R1 next year?

Thanks
I was told about 2 weeks ago that MCV (Richmond, VA) had an opening. One of there catagorical interns decided to do radiology. I don't know if the spot is still open or not, but good luck.

I believe that Penn State also is offering a PGY2 position for this year only because of their other residents is entering a research year one year early.

S. You know who this is. I'm glad you got your funding. You should let every program you applied to know that you're funded, even if they haven't offered you an interview yet. You may find that this changes the outlook at a few programs. Last year, UConn kept asking me if I was sponsored during my interview, leading me to think they may be open to the idea of taking a sponsored resident outside the match. I hope things go well. TB
