I am an incoming MS1, and have been advised by a few second-years to pick up some Step 1 review books like First Aid and the BRS series along with my recommended textbooks. They said that I should review the info we will be covering in class beforehand with the high yield books. So, I have two questions:

1.) Does this sound like a good idea, or overkill? Are the provided syllabi usually best for class examination study? I know how competitive ortho is and I want to rock out in my classes.

2.) How often do new editions of the various Step 1 review books come out? It would suck to drop a bunch of cash on the books and then in two years when it is board time to have to get the new editions.

Thanks in advance for any insight. And sorry to the board monitors if this post would have been better placed in the Textbook Review Forum

Also, I just took a look at the new Netter flash cards for anatomy--they looked pretty money to me. I think they just came out last year, any second years out there who used them last year and can comment on them? Thanks for the help guys and gals.
