How does one take step 3 before internship if one's state requires does require some internship months first? I have heard that you can register through another state or something? Anybody know? I'd like to get this over with as well.

You can apply thru any state that does not require internship, such as Delaware, CT, MD, ect. However if you want to moonlight then you need to have a licence. Some states, such as NY require you to apply for your licence at the same time as Step 3.

Bottom line, you can register thru any state if you just want to take the test. If you want to moonlight you should apply thru the state that you want to work in, but they might have some restrictions.

how hard is it to pass step 3? Do you know any details about the second test day? I think its some simulated cases on a computer? I'd love to get it out the way but don't wanna risk failing the thing, because I know i won't be able to study much at all. Don't have any big plans, but i'm gonna enjoy my time until July 1st.

i would recommend taking step 3 as early as possible. i really felt it is the easiest of the 3 by far. i just took it midway through my internship. maybe did a 1/3 of the kaplan q book and scored in the 240s. i obviously overstudies and probably would have easily passed without studying, but wanted to make sure i passed since it costs $650. i wanted to get it done ASAP so that i only have to worry about reading ortho from here on out. and my general medicine knowledge is fading by the day. i would definitely recommend at leas taking it as an intern and if you can as a MS4, might as well get it done once and for all.

Anyone who matched in philly planning on trying to bump off the tres prior to intern year? Is it a simple matter of registering for it?

is there anyone out there who actually did take step 3 prior to intern year? are you better prepared as a 4th year to take it than an intern? is how you did on step I/II indicative of how well you'll do on step 3? curious about which books to use (if any at all)?
