Hey all, now that it is about to happen in a few minutes.. I just wanted to let you know, if you don't match.. it's okay..

If it's really what you want to do, have no fear.. you can do it. Don't think that it has any reflection of how good a candidate that you may be. Don't be discouraged. Lot's of things go into the match, and the truth is that you don't have control over many of the factors. No matter how you slice and dice the statistics, it really doesn't matter. Shoulda coulda woulda, but didn't.. doesn't matter. There's always something you can do to improve your chances. Just remember that next year when you apply.

The three options you have are to 1. abandon ortho, 2. do a gen surg prelim, 3. Do research. Each has inherent advantages, and the truth is that it's really a personal opinion. See prior thread topics for the advantages of all.

Take today to explore your options. THis is your day to explore your thoughts on how you feel about the whole situation. If you know you definitely want to do ortho.. mobilize.. and do what you need to do. Fast, thorough..and involve as much help as you can possibly gather. This includes friends, attendings, relatives, etc. You need people on your side emotionally, and politically. Don't feel bad about asking for help. It's not a pride thing.. It's your life.

Hold your head up high, walk proudly. It's not the end of the world. If you persevere, good things can happen. I am evidence of that fact, and so many others on this forum are as well. The most important aspect of your application is that you know what you want to do, and you will do anything to be an Orthopaedist, no matter how long, and how hard.

"Do it"
I strongly recommend performing a prelim year. Maimonides medical center is an amazin place to perform a prelim year, and you will be surrounded with very helpful residents and faculty willing to go to bat for you. A few others have been mentioned, but here I feel like here you get to network with tons of other programs in the city, get the full support you need for your application, and get to make an impression without going unnoticed.
