Any word on the program at UVA. Seems decent, but I haven't talked to anyone that really knows about it.
Be prepared to write an additional essay about why UVA, what ties you have to the area, etc. Seems like interviews might be a better place to ask that stuff, as if it matters. It's not as though residents take up valuable state tax dollars. Regionality blatantly rears it's ugly head. Frustrated by the extra paperwork, I suppose...

UVA's program is just that, OK. Good buddy of mine is up there. Typical academic center red tape, you have to spend 40 weeks in Roanoke you're 4th year doing trauma, a couple months away you're intern year.

UVA is an incredible program and Charlottesville is awesome. All of the subs are covered by multiple fellowship trained MDs. All of the residents are happy and are tight. They get their top fellowship choices. It is true that the residents travel to Roanoke but it is better known as Surgery Camp. You get 3 Ortho months as an intern plus ER, Anesthesiology, and MSK. Also you take Ortho call 5/6 of those months, an incredible experience. I was torn between UVA and Campbell Clinic, no regrets about my 1st choice!
