Visiting Rotations, 4th yrs

It seems like most of the away rotations require 4 weeks time in their rotations. If this is absolutely true and there is no way around that, then I will only be able to rotate in 1 place. Some questions I have are:

-Were you ever able to rotation away in a 2 or 3 week period, and which schools allowed that?
-Did you get an interview in where you did your away rotation??
-Did you rank the program where you rotated at? Was it worth the trouble or did you leave feeling like you might have been better off not rotating there?
-Does anyone get great letters from away rotations?

There are only 5 weeks I?m allowed to do for away Ortho rotations and get credit for it, and I need all the credits I can get to graduate on time (leniency lacks at this institution). so any info here would help much in considering how important aways are and ways they can be carried out - thanks
The importance of doing aways is discussed multiple times in previous threads. Do a search. I know some people do 2 week rotations at places, don't know how good this is though, maybe someone else can comment. I suggest you just look into places that you are interested in rotating at, and then put in some work and contact the programs and find out whether they let you do 2 or 3 week rotations. In terms of doing more aways, I only got credit for one of my 2 aways (4weeks each). Had to use a vacation month for the other. Just had to suck it up and realize that I wouldn't have as much vacation as my medicine colleagues.

THANKS DLBERRY, I did actually run through the some 40 pages of information in the last few hours. One thing I didn't find much on is did anyone actually get an interview at the site they rotated at or did the school seriously consider your application after doing an away there?

I know there are a lot of 4th years excited about match day coming up [good luck ] but if anyone could just think back for a minute about that away rotation they did and whether it helped anyway, in retrospect...

An away rotation is in reality an audition rotation. The main reason that people rotate at a place is to try and improve their odds for matching at the said place. The attendings and residents get an opportunity to see you in action to decide how good you are and if they would want to work with you for the next 5 years. Obviously, it's also a chance for you to check the place out too. Pretty much all places give you the courtesy of an interview if you rotated there. However, if your numbers are really strong, you may actually ruin your chances of an interview if you didn't perform well or if they didn't like you. That's the chance you have to take. I would seriously sit down and talk to someone at your school going into Ortho or the residency director. Many of these are basic questions that most people know the answer to.
